Winemaking: The Judith Beck estate has been farmed biodynamically since 2007, creating natural wines from native grapes that grow so well in the Burgenland region of Austria. The natural farming in the vineyard is mirrored in the winery with only natural yeasts being used along with minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration.
Vegan?: Yes
A blast of dark fruits, spices and fresh, springy juiciness that leaps from the glass on the nose and hits the palate like a mouthful of summer berries. There are no oaky flavours in Ink although some time in large barrels is spent in the maturation.
About the producer: Young winemaker Andreas Bender has sites across the heart of the Mosel Valley. Having lived and worked in the region all his life he knows each area well, and which sites are likely to thrive each vintage. His method is distinctive in the world of German wine: instead of following the familiar model whereby top single vineyards are vinified and bottled separately, he blends his vineyards to achieve three different styles - similar to how Champagne houses blend across villages to achieve a consistent house style.
